Freedom Fighter (M-1639)
About the Author
Freedom Fighter Mokarram Hossain Kabir was born on 21st April 1949 in a renowned Muslim family in Shankarpasha Union under Zianagar Thana of Pirojpur district in Barisal division. His father late MA Hasan served for about 25 years with great fame in the local Parerhat Rajlaksmi High School in the capacity of Head Master.
While Mokarram Hossain was a college student Liberation war started (broke out) in 1971 throughout the country. He could not keep quiet at the sight of miseries of mass people due to inhuman torture of Pakistani occupation army. He got himself involved in the Liberation war forgoing the impending threat to his life to liberate the people and the country from the Pakistani intruders. After completing higher training in Birvoom, India under sub-sector commander Maj. (Retd.) Ziauddin and sector commander of the 9th sector Maj (Retd.) MA Jalil, he confronted Pakistani troops with heroic performance at Rayenda in Morelganj Thana in the district of Bagerhat and liberated Parerhat of Pirojpur.
He returned to his native locality after the independence earned at a cost of innumerable lives, an ocean of blood and chastity of numerous mothers and sisters. At present he is involved in business and social welfare activities.
The reason of writing this booklet
My respectable father late M. A. Hasan a universally venerable personality served the Rajlaksmi High School at Parerhat in the district of Pirojpur for about 25 years in the capacity of Head Master. As usual he got a huge collection of rare books. He was devoted to collect new literature. For that reason although I had a nake to read book from the very boyhood. I never wrote any thing in the form of book and didn’t think of writing in future.
Very recently a verse of the Holy Quran drew my attention while studying its meaning. It was that verse which compelled me to write this booklet. Allah the great says in that verse. “And mix not truth with falsehood, nor conceal the truth while you know (the truth)” (Al-Quran: 2:42)
I am a govt. certified freedom fighter. While I was a college student I could not tolerate the barbarous torture of the Pakistani occupation army, so I picked up weapon and participated in the Liberation war with a view to liberate the people and our country from oppression of the Pakistani intruders. The scenario of Morelganj, Smarankhola, Mathbaria, Vandaria, Parerhat, Pirojpur at that time was in my finger tips.
What role played by whom in favour of and against the ongoing Liberation war were all in front of my eyes. Today’s world famous commentator of the Holy Quran Allama Delawar Hossain Sayedee used to deal in commodities at Parerhat bazar with his brother- in-law a renowned businessman Mojaher Ali Mallik during the Liberation war in 1971. He used to offer prayer very often with my father in a broken tin-shed mosque in Parerhat bazar. Of course after being elected as MP Allama Sayedee reconstructed that dilapidated mosque and made it a beautiful building. It is worthwhile to mention that during the tenure of his membership of Parliament for 10 years he constructed more than one hundred mosque buildings.
Allama Sayedee was known to me as a commentator of the Holy Quran and a religious orator until I took part in Liberation in 1971. He used to address religious congregation during that time in Barisal, Khulna, Jessore and other districts of north Bengal. But as soon as the liberation war ushered religious congregation stopped as usual throughout the country. He then started to live in a rented house at Parerhat Bazar.
During the whole tenure of 9 months of the Liberation war Maulana Sayedee was at Parerhat bazar. He had no role against the independence. He was neither a Razakar, Al-Badr, Al-Shams nor a member of the Peace committee. That he even did not have any relationship with political parties was known to all Muslim and Hindu inhabitants of that locality.
By the grace of Almighty he gradually became familiar as a commentator of the Holy Quran at home and abroad. His worldwide identity as an Islamic scholar brought a rare fame for Bangladesh. His vast familiarity and popularity provocated a burning sensation in the body of a class of politicians. As such during late eighties of 20th century, they tried to publicize utopian stories in print and electronic media by designating him “Razakar; Albadr; anti liberation element’ arsener; killer; torturer of the ethnic minority etc." to embarrass the new generation.
Under these circumstances, verse no 42 of chapter-2 of the holy Quran motivated me to play a courageous role to unveil the truth in this context. As I am a new comer in writing books so I took help from Abdullahil Mahmud, Professor of Togra, Pirojpur Kamil Madrasha and a PhD research fellow. I took further help from related papers, books and the recorded speech of Allahma Sayedee delivered in the parliament.
Allama Sayedee is considered a venerable personality to all people irrespective of their religion and caste at his place of birth Pirojpur because of his God fearness, honesty, transparency, high moral quality, Philanthropic attitude, modest behaviour and living simple-life. He is the architect of building modern Pirojpur during the whole tenure of 10 years of his membership of parliament in pirojpur-1 constituency; he only gave whatever he could to the people of Pirojpur; but took nothing in exchange; for this reason Non Muslim minority people are also grateful to him.
This booklet is published as a symbol of challenge to the act of unlawful & purposeful enrolment of this universally venerable person in the list of war criminals.

Context of war criminals: 1971 Liberation war
History witnessed how the majority of Bengali speaking people of the then East Pakistan became tortured with endless cruelty, oppression, neglect and deprivation of the west Pakistani people and franchised indirectly for liberation in 1970 parliamentary election by rejecting the west Pakistani rulers with a massive hatred. For that reason the west Pakistani rulers jumped over the unarmed Bangla speaking people like barbarous hyena on the black night of 25th march, 1971 and started genocide. People of the country created a barrier irrespective of their class and profession against the Pakistani occupation army and picked up whatever weapon they had in their vicinity to build up an independent Bangladesh at the call of the Architect of our independence, Bangobondhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. By virtue of unthinkable sacrifice of the people of all strata of this country, at the cost of chastity of innumerable mothers and sisters, lives of millions of people and an ocean of blood as well as active collaboration of the neighbouring India Bangladesh emerged as an independent and sovereign country on 16th December 1971 in the world map after an war of long nine months.
It is known to the conscious section of the society that there always exists some group of people in favour and against any kind of movement be it for independence or for values or for religious belief.
Sometimes majority of people stands in favour and sometimes against the movement. It is worthwhile to note that some movements are going on in the neighbouring India viz independence movement in Assam, Khalistan movement of the Sikh People and movement in other states are also noteworthy. But majority of people of those states stands against these movements. On the other hand, the major section of Kashmiri people have been shedding blood under the sole of Indian army for long 61 years demanding independence and the rulers are trying to control that movement unsuccessfully. A small group of people stands against the blood shedding and the thinking & feeling of the majority of people.
This type of movements are also seen in Sri Lanka, Philippines, China, Pakistan, Iran, Iraq, Turkey, Lebanon, Palestine, Sudan, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Somalia, South Africa, Egypt, Syria and Even in Europe and America.
In continuation of these movements ex-Awami League MP Chitta Ranjan Suter and Kalidas Boidya sitting in kolkata organising movements to build independent Bangabhumi, by splitting Bangladesh. Again a movement is going on to establish “Independent Zoomland” by separating Chittagong hill tracts. There are more or less supporters in favour and against this movement. In the context of Justice, democracy stands in favour of majority. But when self-interest of hegemonial dictators are interrupted the example of standing against the majority by stumpadding the democracy is not even rare. The example of heinous activities of hegemonial dictators is glittering in the Liberation war of Bangladesh, Islamic revolution in Iran, Palestine, Philippines, Mindanao, Kashmir, Iraq, Afghanistan and in the national election of Algeria.
Long before the 1971 Liberation war, conscious people of this country have been noticing with great concern that great neighbour India’s attitude was not friendly rather she showed the attitude of big brother towards our country.
After 1965 Indo-Pak war their concern deepened further and that is why they could not take the co-operation of India in the Liberation war of Bangladesh normally. Keeping in mind that India is co-operating us in the Liberation war to implement it’s far-sighted plan at its own interest and driven by this apprehension & belief that this country and nation will be loser by India most of the Islamic parties and personalities took their stand against the Liberation war supported by India. People of this country got a proof of this thought in post-liberation looting of the wealth of this country by India.
Activities of these minority people who took their stand against the movement of majority are examined and analyzed meticulously after the movement concluded successfully.
It is determined whose stand was how much harmful and it is also defined who is how much punishable in the scale of harm. It was seen in Iran in 1979.
In post movement Iran after analyzing the activities of the minority people who took their stand against the Islamic revolution, punishable offenders were identified and penalized. The architect of Bangladesh Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman also followed the same world recognized method.
During the 1971 liberation war, rightist and leftist intellectuals, Journalists, writers, poets, novelists, doctors, service holders, professionals, administrative officer and employees, businessman and different political parties took their stand against the liberation war supported by India. But some of the selfish people drastically changing their mask posed as great hero of Liberation war. They now demand the trial of war criminals, accepted the title of National poet and National Professor became MP of Awami league and got their position in the cabinet of Awami League.
But Ram-leftist, intellectuals and one kind of media purposefully uttered the name of Jamaat-e-Islami, and reputed Islamic scholars in chorus voice and trying unsuccessfully to identify them as war criminals. They even placed the name of Allama Delawar Hossain Sayedee the pace maker of innumerable people world-wide and internationally reputed Islamic Scholar and commentator of the holy Quran in the same line of war criminal. Whereas in 1971 he did not have even a minor role against the Liberation war. He was not even worker of any political party before 1974.
Every conscious people hopes that criminals should be penalized irrespective of their identity. But the judgment must be impartial. The judgment in which some one is penalized and others are rewarded for the same offence even if it is done forcibly none will be indemnified against natural punishment.
The activities of the leaders of Jamaat-e-Islami against whom propaganda is going on demanding the trial of war criminals are clear to the people of the country. Corruption could not even touch the Jamaat MP and the two ministers of Jamaat in the last Parliament. They tried their best to do development works in their constituency. They showed 100% compliance to the responsibility entrusted on them.
Leaving aside all these things and not even making a mention in any media of these good deeds propaganda is in progress against them centering the Liberation war. Allama Sayedee implemented development work worth Taka 400 crores in his constituency. None of his enemies could not even say that he spent a single taka for his ‘personal purpose’. Neither had he showed nepotism by distributing development works among any of his 4 sons. It’s a matter of regret that the media are presenting utopian charge of war crime without praising the example of his honesty and transparency and defining.
whom can be designated war criminals
Irrespective of compliance, laws have been formulated relating to all matters in this world and definitions have been attributed to every thing. About war it is said that the fighting between armed forces of two countries is termed war. Whatever harm done to each others army will not be considered as offence. Because army can apply any kind of technic to win the war. But the technic applied should be limited within the armies of the two countries. No harm to the civilian should be done. People not directly involved in war can’t be killed. Looting and raping must not be done and no civilian target should be hit. If any of the fighting armies violating the international law kills civilian then it will be considered war crime.
During the 2nd world war Nazi army committed genocide. After the war, list of war criminals were prepared though investigation followed by formation of Nuremberg trial. But as some of the notorious war criminal fled, all war criminals could not be tried. Later on, these fugitives were arrested and tried. The genocide committed in Cambodia, Rwanda and Bosnia were reported to the United Nations with a hope that these will also be tried but when the superpowers together demolished the independent existence of Iraq & Afghanistan, and being patronized by them when the Jews made Lebanon & Palestine hell and committed genocide irrationally no one spoke of it though all these activities are considered war crime according to international law. While Muslims and Muslim countries perish the conduct of the group, person and media patronized by the superpower proved to be seriously sabotaging. However todays Bangladesh was erstwhile East Pakistan in the world Map until 16 December, 1971. Those who committed genocide, looted wealth & raped women in the then East Pakistan were mostly West Pakistani national with a very few exception.
Most of the Bangla speaking soldiers who were serving the undivided Pakistani army extended their co-operation to the Liberation war in any way and even provided training to the freedom fighters. The West Pakistani occupation army found the Urdu speaking East Pakistani people and a small number of Bangla-speaking people as their associate and these associates were designated as anti-liberation elements afterwards.
Being freed from jail the govt. formed under the leadership of Bangobondhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman enquired into the war crime. During that time Pakistani army and their associates were under the purview of enquiry. 195 Pakistani soldiers were then identified as war criminals under war criminal act. Bangladesh govt. declared the identity and trial of 195 war criminals through a press release on 17 April 1973.
Simultaneously some Urdu speaking and more than 100,000 Bangla speaking people were identified as collaborators and brought under trial. It is worthwhile to mention that the 1st head of the state and Govt. of the independent Bangladesh Bangobondhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman identified no civilian as war criminals. All those who were identified as war criminals were the members of the West Pakistani Army.
The war criminals were not brought before the war criminals tribunal even after communicating the decision of identifying them. It was decided to set free those 195 war criminals in a tripartite meeting held in New Delhi among Bangladesh, India & Pakistan through an agreement on 9.4.1974. The signatories of the treaty were the then Indian Foreign Minister Sharan Sing, Aziz Ahmed of Pakistan and the then Bangladesh Foreign Minister Dr. Kamal Hossain. The treaty is still available. To penalize those who were associates of Pakistani occupation army collaborators Act was promulgated on 24.1.1972 and under this act about 100,000 people were arrested.
Of the arrested people charges were framed against 37,471 persons. But due to non-availability of witness and documents cases could not be filed against 34,623 persons. Although 2848 persons were brought under trial, complains brought against 572 were proved and 2096 persons were honourably acquitted.
On 30th November, 1973, Head of the state Bangobondhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman himself declared the general pardon. But the charge of killing, rape, looting and arsenal were not condoned. In one word trial of those people remain open who committed these offence during the liberation war. In January, 1976 President Ziaur Rahman completely abolished the collaborators Act. But before abolishment during the previous 2 years and 1 month nobody was charged with or sued for war crimes. That could probably the reason, President Ziaur Rahman considering the act unnecessary abolished it completely.
It has to be remembered that the then Awami League Govt. freed 195 war criminals through tripartite treaty without bringing them under trial. All of them were member of Pakistani army. None of them were civilians. On the other hand those arrested under the collaborator’s Act were all civilians. None of them were members of army. That means while identifying as war criminal Bangobondhu himself took decision by specifically making a line of demarcation between civilian and army.
Associates of Pakistani occupation army during the Liberation war
The role of the associates of Pakistani army during the Liberation war is being publicized by media purposefully and unilaterally. Actually after the genocide committed by Pakistani army on 25th March 1971, people of this country with the help of India unitedly resisted the Pakistani occupation army who had no other way but taking help from some associates to confront this resistance. That is why Pakistani army formed two associate groups of para military troops named Al-Badr and Al-Shams.
Razakar troops were formed with illiterate & semi educated rural people in the shape of village defence party. These troops worked under the direct control of police force. Entry in these troops remaining open, Culprits, opportunist, unemployed people irrespective of their identity and ideology joined these troops and got involved in various crimes under transitional situation.
Neither was it possible for all people of this country to take shelter in India nor was it convenient for India to give shelter to 75 million refugees after 25th March 1971. Even if 5 million people had taken shelter in India, remaining 70 million people had to live in Bangladesh under the threat of Pakistani army showing obedience to them either willingly or under compulsion. For example late poet Shamsur Rahman was a bonafide employee of the then Daily Pakistan and he used to write in that paper regularly designating the freedom fighters “culprits”. Late Jahanara Imam designated as “Mother of the Martyred” and Prof. Kabir Chowdhury used to read different news and participate in various discussions in the then Radio Pakistan. In 1996 national election, Awami League got the victory and Maulana Nurul Islam who was a commander of Razakar was nominated Minister for Religious Affairs. Father-in-law of the daughter of the present Prime Minister was the leader of the peace committee in Faridpur. Father of Awami League leader Mr. Saber Hossain Chowdhury was a leader of the peace committee in Dhaka. Despite his strong negative role in Liberation war, justice AKM Nurul Islam was nominated for MP election by Awami League. Some of the present leading member of BNP, JP and other parties had effective role against Liberation war favouring Pakistani army. Source: "Scenery, 71 politics of 21st century and Awami League" (DRISHYAPAT EKATTUR, EKUSH SHATOKER RAJNITI O AWAMI LEAGUE) and other books on Liberation war (EBONG MUKTI JUDDHA BISHAYAK ANYAANYA BOI).
Pakistani army did not allow the political parties (big and small) to remain neutral and it was not possible to remain neutral for any political party in that situation. On the other hand staying inside the country and taking stand against the ruling army ushered in severe torture. That is why may people living inside Bangladesh during 1971 had to co-operate with the Pakistani army willingly or unwillingly.
Now the question is why 195 identified war criminals were released and associates of Pakistani army were forgiven; obedient servants, poets, writers, journalists, intellectuals, engineers, doctors who co-operated with the Pakistani army were placed in respectable positions but the people belonging to Jamaat-e-Islami are being targeted as anti-liberation element and war criminals?
In 1971 political power of the country was not in the hand of Jamaat-e-Islami and India only behaved well with the supporters of Awami League. Even India did not behave well with the leader of the oppressed Maulana Bhasani. While he wanted to go to motivate China to recognize the independence of Bangladesh he was house-arrested in India. So it is unthinkable that the Govt. of India would behave well with the people of an Islamic Party like Jamaat. When that situation existed the people of Jamaat could not even think of taking shelter in India. As a matter of fact if this party would remain impartial Pakistan Govt. would not have even forgiven them. So those people of Jamaat who under compulsion took that stand in favour of Pakistan, propaganda is being made against them to the effect that they committed genocide, rape, looting and arsenal. In true sense if they had committed these crimes why avoiding them the head of the then Govt. Bangobondhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman identified only 195 Pakistani soldiers as war criminals? Arresting them under the collaborators Act and not including them in the list of war criminals, Bangobondhu uplifted this truth that none of the Jamaat leaders were war criminals.
On 16th December, 1971 both the parties signed the surrender document in the Race Course ground. The wining party was the chief of Eastern command Jagjit Sing Arora and the defeated party was General Niazi of Pakistan. No where in that document, freedom fighters, liberation forces or Govt. of Bangladesh were mentioned. No Bangladeshi was even made witness to that document. General Osmani the Chief of Staff in the Liberation war was not even allowed to remain present in that programme. Now the question is whether Pak army or Jamaat-e-Islami leader surrendered to the Indian army? The historical surrender documents prove that Pak army and not the Jamaat leaders were war criminals.
In 1974 Bangobondhu released most of the Jamaat leaders through general pardon. This proved that no specific charges of crime were found against them. Those who were not released were honourably acquitted by court and finally they were released by court of law. All those files are still available and this truth can never be wiped off. Where this is the truth why Jamaat leaders are being termed war criminals?
Where is the evidence of complains:
In order to identify as war criminal some one has to be charged with genocide, rape, looting, arsenal. Was any of the Jamaat leaders against whom charges of war crime has been brought involved in the above mentioned crime? Had they been involved in any type of crime people of their locality would never allow them to enter their own area. Did any of the people harmed by them filed a GD or a case against them in any Police Station of the country after 1971? Is there any example of such case anywhere in the country?
It is possible to embarrass a nation by utopian story for the time being. Before the new generation, attempts can be made to make them believe a false story by presenting it as true.
But the formulator of the utopian story of war crime will definitely be designated as liar and conspirator by the people of the locality of those persons against whom utopian story of war crime has been formulated.
Last two regimes of Awami League and the trial of war criminal
On January 10, 1972 the architect of Liberation Bangobondhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman returned to Bangladesh and formed the Govt. headed by him. Those who formed the Sectors Commanders Forum and now demand the trial of war criminals were in close vicinity to the head of the then Govt. Bangobondhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. Maj. General (Retd.) K. M. Shafiullah was the chief of Army Staff and Air Vice Marshal (Retd.) A. K. Khondokar was the chief of Air force. Others were posted to different important position in the then army.
After the Liberation war the name of 195 Pakistani soldiers were enrolled in the list of war criminals and brought to the notice of Bangobobdu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, why the leaders of the present Sector Commanders Forum and the Cabinet Ministers did not urge the govt. to write the names of the Jamaat leaders in the list of war criminals?
The reason was the govt., Cabinet Minister and other members of intelligentia knew it very well that civilian could not be included in the list of war criminals. If it is done so the total matter loses importance. Those who were within the Govt., surrounding the head of the state and well-wisher of the Govt. are now leading the organizations demanding the trail of war criminals. They must declare whether the then head of of the state Bangobondhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman violated the internationally recognized law by avoiding inclusion of the Jamaat leaders in the list of war criminals?
The leaders of Sector Commanders Forum recently said that they have documents in their hand as a proof of Jamaat leaders being involved in war crime. If they have the documents why did not they hand it over to the then Honourable President Sheikh Mujibur Rahman?
It is demanded that there was no scope of trying the war criminals after August 15, 1975 upto May 1996. When Awami League won the national election in 1996 and formed Govt., despite the administration being in favour of then why the demand for trial of the war criminal was not raised? Whereas the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina tried the killer of her own parents, but she did not try the war criminals why was not she asked to show the cause?
Seeing the result of election of the combined Islamic and nationalist forum and the panoramic success in the 5 years tenure of their regime, the demand of trial of war criminals was raised. Why and for what purpose it is raised is as clear as day light to the conscious people of the country.
The charge of war crime and its effect on people
After the liberation war a special forum of politician, poet, intellectual and others started to make propaganda against the largest Islamic party of the country and its leaders through print and electronic media. On the other hand those against whom charges are brought are within the purview of the public. They are maintaining intimate relationship with their local people and stand by their side with helping hands during their miseries and sufferings.
In their native area people are observing their character. Neighbours being of different ideology and belief are being helped by them. During election people franchised in favour of them to elect them, Member/Chairman of UP and even sent them to the cabinet by electing them as MP. This is the irresistible opinion of the people in favour of the Jamaat leaders. Was it possible to divert the opinion of the people against them after utilizing all the media? To get the answer to this question we have to look back to the result of last election.
Reflections of parliamentary election 2008
Despite charges of war crime against Jamaat leaders, number of votes casted in favour of them denotes that it is impossible to divert the public opinion against them. Rather due to their ideological beauty, public opinion is gradually increasing in their favour. It is known from election commission that Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami contested in 38 constituencies with their party symbol ‘Scale’ in the December 29 election 2008. Despite digital election engineering average number of vote casted in favour of scale was 86,275 in each constituency. In October, 2001 election, average number of vote casted in favour of scale was 75,862. In 2008 election Jamaat got on an average 11000 more votes in every constituency compared to that in 2001. In the last election total number of vote casted in favour of Jamaat was 24,27,374, whereas in 2008 election this number raised to 32,78,459.
In the last election some of the candidates from Jamaat could not save their security money whereas in 2008 election none of the 38 candidates lost their security money. In this context although election commission published some wrong information at the initial stage, they acknowledged their mistake later on. On the other hand due to 4-party alliance Jamaat contested in 38 constituency and supported BNP in 262 constituency. Jamaat has got lakhs of votes in those 262 constituency. This statistics do not contain the accounts of those votes. The above mentioned statistics of vote indicates that despite conspiracy and propaganda against Jamaat, it’s popularity is gradually increasing. This proves that the people of Bangladesh do not take into cognizance the charges brought against Jamaat leaders. Because they observed very closely and verified the charges with the characters of the Jamaat leaders and took correct decision. The people of Bangladesh consider Jamaat leaders honest, pious, free from corruption and of high moral character.
Why this demand after 38 years?
When Jamaat came into existence as an Islamic political party Awami League communicated with and called on Jamaat leaders in there central office during anti-Ershad & anti-BNP movement. Local Awami League leaders came into a bond of relationship with the local Jamaat leaders by arranging marriage among their off- springs.
During anti-autocrat movement and anti-BNP movement after 1991 Awami League raised question against Jamaat neither in the parliament nor in the street. Will the sector commander’s forum leader inform the nation why did not they oppose or protest when Awami League leaders sat with Jamaat leaders in the meeting. Will the sector commanders forum leaders inform the nation as to why did they play role of silent spectator when Awami League leaders sat together with the Jamaat leaders and took their meal at the invitation of different diplomatic Mission? Where were the sector commander’s forum leaders when with a view to seek the support of party MP’s, Awami League leaders approached party chief Ghulam Azam for his blessings in 1996 parliament election. As a matter of fact necessity knows no law. Thinking that it would be impossible to build up huge asset without complying with the blue print of the imperialist & expansionalist force; Awami League leaders could not involve themselves in nation building but doing the sabotaging deed of dividing the nation. When Awami League after various types of temptation could not separate Jamaat and BNP from each other and Jamaat formed alliance with nationalist force BNP. In 2001 election Awami League failed to obtain the power to rule the country. From that time onwards Awami League being aggreived, started to make propaganda against Jamaat according to the blue print of foreign forces.
Previously imperialist power considered Islamist as competent force to combat Peganist socialism in different Muslim countries. That is why they did not take visible action against the Islamist. But immediately after the fall of Peganist communism, the imperialists targeted only Islam and took programme to deroot Islamist. Super powers set out a special agent in the field against Islamist to implement their own programme. In some cases by launching bomb attack by person in Islamic dress they are trying to create panic in different countries of the world.
The holy Quran is being termed by them as the source of terrorism, mosque as the labour room of terror, Prophet (SM) as the leader of the terrorist (I seek refuge to Allah); because person with cap on head being identified as the associate of terror. Under these circumstances 38 years after the independence with a view to deroot the Islamic personalities and Islamic movement the slogan of war crime is being raised through the secularists & the socialists. As proof let the eyes be fixed upon the complaints imposed against Maulana Delawar Hossain Sayedee.
Real identity of Allama Sayedee
Politician, Member of Parliament and Jamaat leader are not the true identity of Allama Sayedee. He is famous worldwide as commentator of the holy Quran. Weekly Euro Bangla on 7th August 2006 published in London, mentioned regarding Allama Sayedee in page No. 47 “About 250 million people of the world spoke and expressed their mental feeling in Bangla. The man who has been delivering the call of Quran to this vast population scattered in Bangladesh, India, America, Europe, Middle East and different places of South Asia is a contemporary scholar of high grade in the holy Quran- Allama Delawar Hossain Sayedee. But the witness of Quranic service of Allama Sayedee is this green Bangladesh having an area of 56,000 square miles. He has been speaking every year in the congregation of 5 day long Quranic commentary in the parade ground in Chittagong for the last 28 years. In Sylhet Govt. Madrasah ground for the last 30 years, Kamalpur Railway ground, Motijheel Govt. High School ground and Paltan ground in Dhaka for the last 32 years. Besides these he covered all the divisional and district town of Bangladesh by his Quranic commentary. There is no dwelling in Bangladesh where Sayedee is an unknown name.
Whenever he enters his home town Pirojpur people of all strata irrespective of their caste and creed eagerly await his arrival to hear his sermon and take blessings from him.
Political and ideological opponents of Allama Sayedee are jealous of his sky-kissing popularity. That is why he is being blamed of war crime, minority oppression; Razakar etc to detouch him from people particularly young generation. By the grace of Allah all the plot and efforts the conspirators proved ineffective- evidenced by the fact that whenever Allama Sayedee’s Quranic commentary and congregation is arranged people rush into it in huge number whether at home or abroad.
Role of Allama Sayedee in the liberation war
Allama Sayedee was neither a worker nor a leader of any political party before 1974. That he had no controversial role during Liberation war was declared by him in various Quranic commentary congregation and even in the parliament. He not only declared but set out several open challenge through print media. He invited all the intelligence agency and reporters, journalists at his native land Pirojpur and requested them to investigate if he had any antagonistic role during the Liberation war.
Unfortunately none of the blamer accepted this open challenge and continued to play the old record designating him anti-liberation element & war criminal. The complaints used to say that he tortured the minority people of Pirojpur in 1971. The reality is many religious teacher (Alim) was martyred: jailed and went in disguise during the Liberation war and afterwards. But Allama Sayedee was neither jailed nor he went into disguise after Liberation war because he was not a member of the anti liberation forces like Razakar, Al-Badr or peace committee. In the independent Bangladesh he was the first man to start Quranic commentary congregation and this is the true history.
On 22/2/1972 just 2 months and 7 days after the victory on 16th December, 1971, Allama Sayedee spoke on the Quranic commentary congregation in his native district Pirojpur. Afterwards he had been being invited as chief guest in the Quranic congregation throughout the country, one after another. Subsequently one name Allama Sayedee had been being uttered with highest esteem by the people of this country.
If he had tortured the people of his native land in collaboration with the Pakistani army in 1971, how could the same people invite him as chief guest in the religious congregation held only 2 months 7 days after the victory day? Only after 2 months and 7 days people forgot his tort? People heard Quranic words from a tyrant Razakar? None of the heroic freedom fighters was alive when he spoke about Quran in that congregation? None of the audience stood up and protested “You were Razakar, we would not listen to you?”
Under the leadership of freedom fighter Hejaj Uddin, freedom fighter of Pabna (most of whom are still alive) organized a Quranic commentary congregation at Pabna stadium ground in 1972 and invited Allama Sayedee as chief guest. The then non-Muslim SP of Pabna opposed and freedom fighters ignoring the opposition declared ‘we had shed our blood and achieved independence; we did not cross the ocean of blood for slavery, if necessary we will even shed the last drop of our blood to implement the Quranic commentary congregation’. They made 7 days congregation successful.
The scene of receiving Allama Sayedee in that congregation in Pabna was really attractive. Armed freedom fighters were standing on the two sides of road as guard. Innumerable motor rider freedom fighters were passing by the two sides of the road and motorcade of Allama Sayedee was proceeding towards the stage. As soon as the motorcade approached the stage the freedom fighters received Allama Sayedee with 21 gun fire. The audience and spectalators of that scenario and most of the freedom fighters concerned who arranged that programmes are still alive. If Allama Sayedee were Razakar why the freedom fighters would have received him with such high esteem of gun fire.
There is no remarkable Thana or district where he did not attend a religious congregation. In almost all of his congregation local freedom fighters sat with him in the stage. In other congregation, Honourable President, MP, Ministers, Govt. High Official, Justice, Army Chief of Staff and army officers sat on the stage and listened his speech. A great number of congregations were addressed by the organizer of Liberation war. Foreign scholars attended the congregation and delivered speech, even honourable Imam of the Holy Kaaba attended the religious congregation of Allama Sayedee twice held in Chittagong.
In 1979 a congregation of Quranic commentary held in Children Park at Narayanganj. On the inaugural day announcer of the proclamation of independence President Ziaur Rahaman sat beside Allama Sayedee for about an hour and listened to his speech. The people of Narayanganj stands witness to that event till today. Moreover, Allama Sayedee had an intimate friendship with freedom fighters Major (Retd) MA Jalil, sector commander for sector 9. They use to go to residence of one another regularly.
In addition to that during the eighties of the last century Allama Sayedee had delivered his speech in the congregation in front of Dhaka High Court mausoleum. Chief justice, justice of High Court and Supreme Court listened to the speech of Allama Sayedee for hours together. Videographs of those events are still available. If Allama Sayedee had controversial role in Liberation war, freedom fighters and these renowned persons and Honourable President himself sacrificing their dignity would have participated in Sayedee’s religious congregation and listened to it in pin drop silence?
Allama Sayedee’s election and the role of freedom fighters
World renowned commentator of Quran Allama Sayedee won the parliamentary election 1996 from his native area Pirojpur-1 with a view to develop Pirojpur. In 2001 he once again won obtaining huge number of vote. In 2008 he was defeated through digital engineering. The people of Pirojpur could never think about the development work earlier in Pirojpur worth TK 4,000 million.
In Pirojpur-1 constituency, 25% of the total voters are Hindu. In the 3 above mentioned elections all people voted in his favour irrespective of their caste and creed. The freedom fighters of his locality helped him in all respect in election.
Some of the freedom fighters who leaded and conducted his election are:
1. Freedom fighter advocate (late) Shahidul Alam Niru (Pirojpur Sadar)
2. Freedom fighter Gazi Nuruzzaman Babul, Ex. MP
3. Freedom fighter Md. Liakat Ali Sheikh Badshah (ex Municipal Chairman, Pirojpur)
4. Freedom fighter Abdur Razzak Munan (ex Municipal commissioner)
5. Freedom fighter Abdus Salam Baten (Municipal Commissioner, Pirojpur)
6. Freedom fighter Advocate SK. Abdur Rahman (Nazirpur)
7. Freedom fighter Habibur Rahman Bahadur (Nazirpur)
8. Freedom fighter Mokarram Hossain Kabir (M-1639, Parerhat, Zianagar)
9. Freedom fighter Abdul Gani Molla, (Gazette No. 2534, Zianagar)
10. Freedom fighter Abdus Salam Howlader (Gazette No. 2528, Pirojpur)
11. Freedom fighter Abdul Hai Mir (M-119254, Zianagar)
12. Freedom fighter Abdur Rab Molla (M-78265, Zianagar)
13. Freedom fighter Abu Taleb Sipai (Gazette No. 2485, Zianagar)
14. Freedom fighter Nur Mohammad Howlader (Gazette No. 2485, Zianagar)
If Allama Sayedee were a controversial personality in his locality, if he had controversial role in Liberation war and if he were war criminal would freedom fighters of his area selflessly conduct his election to make him victorious? So participating in talk show on a satellite channel sitting in AC room to make environment bitter is totally different from what is reality.
Books about liberation war and Allama Sayedee
It is found through analysis that only few books written by diehard leftist writer mentioned the name of Allama Sayedee as Razakar purposefully out of jealousy without competent evidence. In some of those books stories of liberation war, Jamaat-e-Islami, Al-Badr, Razakar, were depicted without mentioning anybody’s name. In some books name were mentioned but no evidence was produced. In some books name of Jamaat was not even mentioned. In some books although the context of freedom fighters, alliance force, Pakistani troops, collaborators were discussed but no mention of Jamaat was made. 23. “MUKTI JUDDHE 8 NUMBER SECTOR” (Sector No-8 in Liberation War) by Md. Shafi Ullah Bir Pratiq discussed Jamaat Razakar, Peace Committee mentioned names of many Razakar But nowhere the name of Allama Sayedee is mentioned as involved in crime.
24. Rafiq Anwar’s “EKATTORER BADDHABHUMI RAZAKARER BIOSCOPE” (Slaughtering ground of 1971 Bioscope of Razakar) is but a novel.
25. In Shahriar Kabir’s “EKATTORER JUDDHOPARADH O JUDDHOPARADHER BICHAR” (War Crime in 1971 and trial of war criminals) although may topics have been discussed in connection with Jamaat leaders and in page 61 of the book it is written that 200 Pakistani army officers were identified as war criminals? But nowhere in the book the name of Allama Sayedee appeared.

27. In AFM Shamsul Arefin’s "MUKTI JUDDHER PREKSMAPAT BAKTIR ABASTHAN" (Position of persons in the context of Liberation War) name and designation of the reasons having role in the formation of peace committee, Razakar have been discussed. Even in this book name of Allama Sayedee is not seen.
By studying the books published so far in Bangla including the books mentioned above name of Allama Sayedee appeared nowhere. It is mentioned earlier in 1 or 2 books the name of Allama Sayedee was mentioned without producing any supporting evidence in support of that. Let us see now what the people say in the book History of Pirojpur District.
Name of the book- History of Pirojpur district
(Pirojpur Zelar Itihas).
The book was published in 2007 at the Period of Caretaker Government, published by District Council Pirojpur. In the history compilation committee there were local administrative Officers, Journalists of the national dailies, district Freedom Fighter Commander.
One of the honorable Advisor of the Caretaker Government also among those who sent messages in the book. There is a list of those who were in favor or in opposition of Liberation war of Pirojpur in the large book comprising of 500 pages. No name of Allama Sayedee was in that list of the anti-liberation or war criminals.
Maulana Delawar Hossain Sayedee
Delawar Hossain Sayedee was born on 2nd February 1940 in Sayedkhali village of Zianagar Upazila under Pirojpur. His Father’s name is Maulana Yousuf Sayedee. Sayedee is the title of their forefather; from generation to generation this title is related with their name. After completing his Primary education in his father established Madrasa, he got education in Sharseena Alia Madrasa and Khulna Alia Madrasa. He received the highest degree of Madrasa education in 1962. He studied the subjects like religion, Philosophy, Science, Politics etc. with a researching and analytical manner. He is actively associated with many educational, religious and social institutions in home and abroad. He visited many countries. He is familiar as an Islamic thinker and orator nationally and internationally. He holds important position in the central committee of Bangladesh Jamaat- e-Islami.
Moulana Delawar Hossain Sayedee elected Member of Parliament in two consecutive terms in 1996 and 2001 from Pirojpur Sadar (Nazirpur-Zianagor) constituency. In the Meantime he has obtained some medals from home and abroad. The number of books written by him is more than 30.
Strong Protest in Parliament and Challenge:
No question arose during the period from 1970 to mid 1980’s is connection with Allama Sayedee. During the regime of Ershad in 1989 when the news published in daily newspapers to the effect that Allama Sayedee was nominated member of the Central Majlis-e-Shura mainly from that time a class of people purposefully started to propagate through print and electronic media that he was anti- liberation element and Razakar. After being elected MP in two consecutive term it is propagated that he was war criminal too. That these things against him are happening according to the blue print of the anti- Islamic power is as clear as daylight to the conscious people.
Allama Sayedee in his speech in parliament on June 24, 1997 at one stage based on information reviewed the secular system of education formulated by Dr. Kudrat-e-Khuda. Speaker Humayun Rashid Chowdhury was speaker to the parliament at that time. On that day almost all the MPs including Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina were present. While delivering his speech some one from treasury bench spoke out indicating him Razakar. He at once challenged and said ''honourable speaker, I am called Razakar. There is no father’s son in Bangladesh who can call me Razakar. Till 1974 I was worker of no political party. I am not Razakar, if someone calls me Razakar but can’t prove it, I shall file defamation suit against him worth Tk. 100 million. Those who are Indian Razakar can only say so.'' This challenge is recorded in the parliament and is preserved till today. No one accepted his challenge till today. (Ref. Bangladesh parliamentary debate –P.I.150-155). His speech was instantaneously broadcasted nationwide and the whole nation heard it on radio.
Defamation suit of Allama Sayedee against the daily Janakantha
The Daily Janakantha started to write fictitious feature about Allama Sayedee in the context of Liberation war. He declared open challenge against it. Previously the feature against Sayedee was printed on the 1st page in banner heading. After open challenge features were printed in small dimension on the 8th page so that it did not attract the reader.
On 7th October 1997 the daily Janakantha in its 16th page published under the headline titled “Open challenge of Sayedee”. Allama Sayedee said, ‘I do hereby invite all journalists, intelligence agencies, intellectuals to my native land Pirojpur. If some one can prove in my presence that I had an antagonistic role against the Liberation war, I will resign from the membership of National assembly willfully and consciously.
Despite all these, some newspapers including the daily Janakantha continued to publish utopian news against Allama Sayedee. At last being compelled he filed a defamation suit against the daily Janakantha in 2001. The news was published on 22nd March 2001 in several newspapers like the daily Ittefaq, Inqilab, Jugantor, Prothom Alo, Sangram, Dinkal, Banglar Bani, Bhorer Kagoz, Ajker Kagoj, Muktokantho, under different headline. Allama Sayedee filed a defamation suit worth TK. 100 million in the 1st sub-judge court Dhaka against the editor, publisher and printer Atiqullah khan Masud, advisor editor Toab khan, executive editor Borhan Uddin Ahmed, reporter Zulfiqar Ali Manik, Case No. 181, sub-Judge court, money suit no -14/2001. The court accepted the case and it is still pending.
Renowned journalist and columnist Mobaidur Rahman in the editorial column of the daily Inqilab criticized in tough language, “those who wrote in newspapers mentioning Allama Sayedee as Razakar and anti- liberation element and opposed him to organize congregation of Quranic commentary, M. Mobaidur Rahman wrote “Allama Delawar Hossain Sayedee is a dedicated soldier of Islamic movement. His outstanding oratory capacity attracted people towards his Islamic congregation. As the famous actor-actress draws viewers to the cinema hall, renowned singer draws the audience by his sweet tune similarly the speech of Sayedee draws millions of people to his Islamic congregation. In this context he can be called star speaker.
They (Janakatha) have been expressing their grievances vehemently against Moulana Sayedee since 1997. From 1997 they have been abusing him as Razakar. Maulana Sayedee threw an open challenge to prove charges of Razakar against him. But black will take no other hue. The freedom fighters of Pirojpur in a deliberation said that Allama Sayedee was never an associate of Pakistani army. But who listens to whom. They have been playing their own old record. In 2001 they published a seriously provocating series. Everyday a religious personality would be chosen and blamed in a filthy and ugly language. They attacked Maulana Sayedee this time in an old fashion by playing the old broken record of Razakar and collaborator etc. The thing that is most apprehending- they started to expost terrorism. Once the capitalist world brought charges of exporting revolution against the communism of China. Then USSR also got involved in that charge.
Anti-Chinese leftist and pseudo communist of the past have now started exporting violence. Of course for many years they have been spreading terrorism, anarchy and fascist attack from Dhaka to Mufassil. Wherever Islamic personalities declared to organize meeting in some place, these prophet of violence called meeting in the same place. As a result confrontation of two groups with bloodshed took place several times. Most of those event occurred in the context of the congregation of Maulana Sayedee. But the tolerance and the mentality of avoiding clash in the Islamic group and personality helped in most cases to avoid violence. In most cases venue of congregation was shifted. But now it is seen that the anarchist want to spread this violence abroad. In the said paper it is seen that Maulana Sayedee will arrange a congregation to deliver speech about Islam in Sydney, Australia in the 2nd week of March 2001. To oppose that congregation Bangladeshi expatriates in Sydney is being provocated through that paper (The daily Inqilab 3/3/2001).
Main plan is outside the country:
The conscious section of people in the country observed that those who declared crussade to deroot Islam and Muslim do not tolerate a strong Islamic party or a protesting voice in any country of the world. With this aim print and electronic media of the western countries are making false propaganda against the world renowned Islamic scholars like Allama Delawar Hossain Sayedee, Allama Dr. Yousuf Ali Qardhavi of Qatar, Dr. Taha Yasin Ramadan of Egypt, Dr. Jakir Naik of India.
Worldwide fame of Allama Sayedee is probably detrimental to him. For example, in October 2008 a great religious congregation of Allama Sayedee in Dubai National Eid ground organized by Dubai International Holy Quran Awards Committee. Chief Patron of that congregation was the Prime Minister of the UAE and the governor of Dubai Sheikh Mohammad bin Rashed Al Makhtoom. In the history of Middle-East that was a remarkable public congregation.
The subject matter of his speech in front of more than 50,000 people was “The scientific miracles in the Holy Quran”. The govt. of Dubai recorded his speech in CD-VCD and made arrangement to distribute these free of cost. Similar congregation was also held in Riyadh, the capital city of KSA in Jeddah, Taif, Dammam and the Holy city of Makkah and Madina.
Congregations of same nature were also held in Alexandria stadium in Athens, the capital city of Greece, Paris, Madrid, Frankfurt, Tokyo, Seoul, Zurich, Lisbon, Vienna, Brussels, Ottawa, Rome, Geneva, Scotland, Amsterdam, Kuala Lumpur, Bangkok, Singapore, Tehran, Kuwait, Qatar, Oman, Bahrain, Egypt and almost all other countries of the Middle East.
TV channels of those countries telecast the scene of presence of innumerable people in the congregation of Sayedee. Similar congregation was held in front of the UN office located in 42nd street in New York City and 22 other states including the capital Washington. In Europe he has been addressing the religious congregation held in London and other cities of Great Britain.
He visited 11 countries of the EU.
In this way he conducted religious congregation in the university of Melbourne in Australia, in the southern Hemisphere, in the University of Montreal, Toronto in Canada in the northern Hemisphere. He conducted religious congregation in at least 50 counties in 5 Continents of the world.
Maulana Sayedee was awarded the title of “Allama” in the International Islamic Seminar Organized by Islamic Circle of North America held in 1991 at the Pensilvia University Auditorium of America.
In the decades of 80’s and 90’s king Fahad Bin Abdul Aziz of Saudi Arabia managed Hajj for Allama Sayedee two times as a guest of Royal Protocol. An arbitration meeting was held at Makkah Al Mukarrama during the Iraq-Kuwait war. About 400 Scholars from all over the world were invited where the king of Saudi Arabia kept present Allama Sayedee in that meeting.
Visualizing the mass tide of people from all class at home and abroad in favour of Islam, the political opponents of Allama Sayedee being jealous are producing utopian charges against him utilizing the national and international media. People of all spheres, rush to his congregation like insects irrespective of their caste creed, opinion, profession and class being satisfied with the scientific and logical attractive speech based on information. Not only Muslim attends the congregation of Allama Sayedee also innumerable non-Muslim male and female attend his congregation and accepted Islam. More than 600 non-Muslim male and female have so far accepted Islam in his hand. Moreover, number of books of him exceeded 66 written on different subjects including “Tafsir-e-Sayedee” (commentary of Sayedee) comprising of over two thousand pages. Those who do not like Islamic ideology and can not tolerate but trying in accordance with the international blue print to make Allama Sayedee who is familiar, highly esteemed and respected in home and abroad, detached from people by bringing allegation of Razakar, anti-liberation element and lastly war criminal against him. If Allah wishes all their false, fabricated political purposeful conspiracy will be torn like spider-web. Patriot, religious, Muslim people are eagerly praying to Allah to that effect.
Last word
We want to say with firm determination that from the late eighties upto 2008, allegation brought against Allama Sayedee in print and electronic media in the context of 1971 Liberation war are all false, fabricated and political purposeful.
During the 2nd World War Goebles was the Information Minister of Hitler in Germany. One of his world famous talks was "If a false statement is uttered hundred times it turns to true."
The ideological and political opponents of Allama Sayedee have been trying to embarrass the new generation and the people of the country by using that very notorious Goeblesian instrument against him.
It is not possible for a religious man who fears Allah and is aware of the accountability in the hereafter to utter such falsehood. We, therefore, whole-heartedly appeal to the people of the country not to be embarrassed by the propaganda relating to war crime against Allama Sayedee.
